Welcome Back!
We hope everyone had a nice summer break. We are so excited for another great year. Here are a couple of reminders from Principal Leite:
7:40–8:10 a.m.: Students can purchase breakfast in the cafeteria, entering through the door on the east side of the school.
8:00 a.m.: Students may begin to line up behind the school with their class. All bikes, scooters, and skateboards must be left in the racks in the back. Don't forget to lock them up. If students are not eating breakfast at the school, please do not send them earlier than 8:00 a.m. as they will not be supervised.
8:10–8:15 a.m.: Teachers will pick up their classes from behind the school and walk them to the classroom. All students should enter the school through the back doors. If it is raining, snowing, or below 20 degrees, we will open all entrances to the school starting at 8:00 a.m. for students to quickly enter.
8:20 a.m.: The school bell rings and school begins promptly at this time. Students arriving after 8:20 a.m. must pick up a tardy slip and will be counted as tardy.
3:00 p.m. Monday–Thursday and 1:10 p.m. Friday: School ends when the bell rings. Teachers will walk their students to the closest door and release their students outside. Siblings or carpool groups should choose a location outside to meet since students will be leaving through different doors. Students are not allowed to come back into the school to call parents for 15 minutes.
3:30 p.m. Monday–Thursday and 1:40 p.m. Friday: All students must be picked up or leave the school property. After this time, there is no supervision for students.
Attendance
We will continue to focus on attendance as a school district. As Superintendent Dau said, “The best thing that you can do as a parent to ensure your child’s success is to make sure they come to school, every day, on time.” We want every student to aim for 95% attendance.
We understand and support you keeping your students home when they are sick. If your child will be absent, please email Lakeview Elementary attendance and copy your child’s teacher to report the absence.
Student Safety and School Traffic
Student safety is our priority. We encourage as many students as possible to walk or bike to school. If you must drive, please be respectful, slow, and kind as you navigate the front drop-off and pick-up area.
Remember our three traffic rules:
Stay in your car.
Only cross at crosswalks.
Only drop off and pick up students in the lane closest to the curb.
Making School Drop-Off and Pick-Up Safe
Since the installation of signage and a fence, we are seeing better use of crosswalks. However, we continue to struggle with traffic stopping in the pick-up lanes after school.
We have two lanes: one by the curb where students exit and enter cars and one for vehicles to drive straight through. Please never leave your car unattended in either lane and do not stay parked in the lanes so traffic can keep moving.
If you need to wait longer than a few minutes to pick up students, please park in the parking lot. We are also asking students not to play games in the front of the school while waiting to be picked up.
Visitor Check-In
In accordance with state law, Lakeview requires all adults coming into the building between 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. to bring identification and check in at the vestibule using our visitor management system. A visitor badge will be printed. Please give yourself extra time to complete this process.
Pen Pals Wanted
Watch for additional information from Lakeview about opportunities to participate in the school's pen pal program.
PTA Needs You
If anyone would like to help with the PTA in any capacity this school year, board positions are being filled. If you are interested, email Lakeview PTA.
How to Parent-Excuse Your Student's Absence
Parents and guardians can excuse student absences through the district's attendance system. Families may also contact the school attendance office if assistance is needed.
Sick Policy Reminder
Please review the school district's sick policy to help prevent the spread of illness and infection at school.
Online Safety Tips
Families are encouraged to regularly talk with students about online safety, appropriate technology use, privacy, and making responsible choices when using digital devices and online services.
Free Reading Resource: Sora
Sora is a free resource that allows students to read ebooks and listen to audiobooks on a computer, phone, or tablet. For questions about Sora, email Olivia at Lakeview Elementary.
How to Use Sora
Go to the Sora student reading website or download the Sora app from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store.
Select Find My School, begin typing the district name, and select Provo City School District.
Log in using your student's Google school email address. The student's password is their birthday in the format provided by the school.
Select + Add Library and add Provo City School District, Beehive Library Consortium, and Utah Dual Language Immersion.
Open Preferences and select preferences for available books, audiobooks, ebooks, immersion language, juvenile, or young adult materials. Select Apply to save your changes.
Open Settings to manage additional settings.
Enjoy reading or listening.
Earn Money for Lakeview
Digital Box Tops
Families can earn money for Lakeview by scanning and submitting receipts through the Box Tops app within two weeks of purchasing qualifying products with the new Box Tops label that says “SCAN.” Be sure to select Lakeview when setting up your account.
Receipts from online orders can also be submitted from many stores. Visit the Box Tops for Education website for additional information. Lakeview is no longer collecting paper Box Tops.
Smith's Inspiring Donations
Shopping at Smith's can also help earn money for Lakeview. If you have a Smith's member ID, visit the Smith's Inspiring Donations page and log in with your email.
Search for Inspiring Donations under the My Account tab and use Lakeview's organization number: LD084.
